Follow the birds! The Great Migration Rally is Saturday, May 12th. Drive from Quivira National Wildlife Refuge to Cheyenne Bottoms. Stops & activities along the way include a bird show by the Eagle Valley Raptor Center, free lunch at the Dozier winery, and activities all along the way. Successful migrants will have the chance to win outdoor equipment, including a GPS unit, JanSport backpack, binoculars, and many other items. Plan to spend the day on the Byway. Free & Fun. Registration is required in order to participate & win prizes.

20,000 freed slaves (known as Exodusters) flowed into Kansas between 1879 & 1880. John Brown & his fiery abolitionist friends and the anti-slavery Civil War reputation of “Bleeding Kansas” made it seem a fair place where freed men & women and their families would be welcome. Spend a day on the Wetlands & Wildlife National Scenic Byway as you trace the Exoduster migration & settlement in Barton & Stafford Counties.
